Peak color on the Fraser trail

Peak color on the Fraser trail

A worn dirt trail curves through golden aspens and lodgepole pine toward a hazy mountain peak outside Fraser, Colorado.

Fraser handed over a textbook leading line — trail running dead center, aspen gold on one side, lodgepole pine on the other, and the peak waiting at the end of it. The camera read the color split better than my eyes did: staring into that sunlit canopy, everything under the trees went dark in person, but the frame kept some of it. Half the reason I stopped was simply to watch how far the trail kept going.
